January 2007.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Rockville, MD.
www.ahrq.gov/clinic/tp/asthmgaptp.htm

"Despite the availability of evidence-based guidelines for the management of pediatric and adult asthma, there remains a significant gap between accepted best practices for asthma care and actual care delivered to asthma patients.

The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the evidence that quality improvement (QI) strategies can improve the processes and outcomes of outpatient care for children and adults with asthma." (AHRQ)

AHRQ - National Healthcare Quality & Disparities Reports

National Healthcare Quality Report, 2006.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Rockville, MD.
www.ahrq.gov/qual/nhqr06/nhqr06.htm

The 2006 National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR) is a comprehensive national overview of quality of health care in the United States.

It is organized around four dimensions of quality of care—effectiveness, patient safety, timeliness, and patient centeredness. Those dimensions cover the four stages of care from the patient perspective (staying healthy, getting better, living with illness and disability, and coping with the end of life).

Measures of access to care are covered in the companion 2006 National Healthcare Disparities Report.
