AHRQ - Assessing Quality of Care for Diabetes

This report prepared by investigators at the University of Michigan Health System for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) discusses recent improvements in the processes of diabetes care and the lack of corresponding improvements in risk factor control.

The ultimate goal of quality measurement in diabetes is to motivate quality improvement and decrease long-term diabetes complications.

Health Care Quality Indicators Project - 2006 data collection update report: A new OECD Health Working Paper

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released the Health Working Paper No. 29 from the Health Care Quality Indicators Project.

This report is an update to the OECD Health Working Paper No. 22, and reports on the results of a second round of data collection.
Data is presented on an augmented indicator set considered fit for the purpose of making international comparisons on quality of health care.

State of Healthcare 2007


The Healthcare Commission released a new independent report on the state of healthcare in England and Wales.

The Commission makes six recommendations to the government and healthcare providers:

- improve the planning and commissioning of services;
- improve access outside the waiting time targets;
- promote a culture of safety more effectively;
- improve healthcare for children and young people;
- demonstrate more sensitivity to the needs of the individual;
- and use information better.
